Name: Lady Kathryn DePaul
Age: 28
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Blood: Pureblood
Year: none
House you want to be in: ---
Appearance: She has long black hair, dark eyes, and an elegant face. She is fairly slim, but has to work out hard to keep that figure. She's about 5'7” tall.

Family: She has a husband whose name is Lord Charles DePaul (He's a lord through an odd hereditary clause that allows the male to gain a title through marriage to a noblewoman). Her mother and father are Lord Blount Delaney and Lady Saturna Delaney, who adopted her when she was 5 months old. She has two younger brothers and one younger sister. Their names are Chad, Blount Jr., and Miranda. Her family is noble because of King Henry VIII. He had sired a child by Bessie Blount, Henry FitzRoy, named after the king himself. He was lavished with the titles of Duke of Richmond and Somerset and later married Lady Mary Howard, only daughter of the Duke of Norfolk. He sired few children, one of them a daughter. Lady Ann (the daughter) was married off to Lord Montgomery Delaney, a close friend of the Duke of Richmond. Much later on down the line, Lord Blount was born, and he continues on the line with his sons Chad and Blount Jr.

History: Kathryn was adopted when she was 5 months old. Her birth mother realized that she was financially incapable of caring for her daughter and didn't want her to suffer. She loved her very much, and she just wanted what was best for Kathryn. She had been working as a maid for a lovely young couple for many years, and she knew they wanted to have children but couldn’t. She spoke with them, and when they agreed to take Kathryn, she left, knowing that it would be hard to be so near to her child, but never able to acknowledge her.

To Blount's and Saturna's surprise, they were gifted with the birth of their own child, Chad, a few years later. They were both surprised and worried about Kathryn. They didn't want her to feel displaced. She did feel really jealous at first, since Chad was doted on so much. She couldn't understand, at the age of 3, that they loved Chad as much as they loved her. After she got older though, around 5 or 6, she began to understand a little more that her parents still loved her. She even started to read to Chad and play with him.

When Kathryn was 10, her other 2 siblings, Miranda and Blount Jr. were born. She was a little more mature then, and she was able to help her parents take care of her siblings. Even though her family was rich, they believed in taking care of their own children, for the most part, not foisting them off on servants.

On Kathryn’s 11th birthday, she received her letter telling her that she was eligible to attend Hogwarts. Her parents were very proud of her. She spent her 7 years studying anything she could get her hands on. She wasn’t too fond of Transfiguration, but she loved Potions and Ancient Runes. She received top grades in both classes. Her best area was translation, and she absolutely hated divination. She tried her best in all of her classes, but she was not very good at Charms and Transfiguration.

When she graduated, she was hired by the Ministry of Magic. Her old Ancient Runes teacher recommended her to the Ministry for a position, and she was granted one. She was sent to various parts of the world to talk with other magical communities. The Ministry wanted to get the other magical communities involved with fighting Voldemort, but they wouldn't help.

Personality: She prefers being alone with her books and runes, but she can be an outspoken person, when properly provoked; and she does her best to stay polite, even in those situations.

Hobbies: She likes to cast runes, read, and draw. She also loves to run and lift weights, a muggle invention that she found to be useful in building upper arm strength and general strength.

Weaknesses: She's not very understanding of the academically slow students. She does do her best to curtail any mean statements, but sometimes it does slip out. She also isn't very good at Transfiguration.

Strengths: She is a very bright, fairly intelligent woman. She knows a lot about Ancient Runes, having traveled all over the world, and read extensively to find out about them.

Goals: She wants to be headmistress of a school someday. She would also like to visit the stars, were that ever to become possible.

Quirks: When Kathryn's very scared, she closes herself off from everyone. She stays there until she feels safe again.

Other: Not a one at the moment!

Application Question:

IC Info:
Name of character: Severus Snape

Gender: M

Canon: Y/N (Canon related characters are not Canon! So just put no please rather than Canon related!!) Yes

Age: 61

Year: Graduated

Current House/ Alumni House: Slytherin

Occupation: [if applicable] Professor of Potions

Personality: [A good two paragraphs or more]

As one may have guessed, Snape is not a warm, fuzzy kind of person. He is sarcastic to a fault. Let no one give him an opening, or he will rip you to shreds. His favorite targets are Potter and Longbottom.

His Slytherins are his favorites. He dotes upon them and does not miss a chance to award house points, even if they are obviously undeserved. On the other hand, he delights in taking points off other houses, Gryffindor in particular. It doesn't matter what the offense...from trivial to serious. Snape just wants to put down other houses. Persumably, it is so Snape does not blow his cover being nice to ther houses...Personally, I believe it is just because he can be very vindictive.

Snape is a very firm teacher. No one dares break a rule in his class...except...when Harry set off his fireworks in his second year to allow Hermione to steal boomslang skin...There is no talking in Snape's class; anyone who talks back or defies him in any way will have detentions for months, if not years. No one defies Snape and lives...I think that's all I need to say on that.

Appearance: [A picture and at least a paragraph!]

One of the most bandied-about phrases about Snape is "bat". For some reason, people seem to equate Snape to a bat. Perhaps it's those elegant flowing black robes. Did I mention billowing? Snape is often (always) dressed in black. He wears a white dress shirt, with black button-up robes over that. Over that, he wears a billowing black cloak.

Snape has extremely white skin; some students have compared him to a vampire. The white skin is caused by an overabundance of indoor reading. His eyes are coal black, guaranteed to scare the living daylights out of any Hogwarts student...he could make a grown adult cry if he wanted to.

Model You're Using: [Don't forget to go to the model claim and claim them!] Alan Rickman

Wand: Ebony, 12 in., slightly firm

Pet: [you don't have to have one] black kitty named Andros

History: [A good two paragraphs or more]

Snape was born on the cold morning of January 9th, 1959 to Tobias Snape and Eileen Prince. His father, being angry about Snape’s magical parentage, began beating him when he was 5. Tobias hoped to beat out whatever magic that was lying inside Snape. His mother was not strong enough to protect him, often cowering in a corner while Snape was being beaten. Snape grew to hate his mother for not protecting him, even though a small part of his mind realized that she was unable to protect herself. She died when Snape was 7, leaving him to more and worse cruelty from his father, Tobias.

Snape resisted his efforts, and it was with great relief that Snape turned 11 and received his letter to Hogwarts. The first book that Snape bought when he went to Diagon Alley to purchase his books was a text on Dark Arts. He studied extensively, and when September 1st arrived, Snape was well read in a variety of Dark Magic, such as the Unforgivable Curses and many others.

On the train to Hogwarts, he met the infamous Marauders, and they did not like each other from the start. Snape had many run-ins with them. A few of the more notable: Remus was a werewolf and almost attacked Snape; Black turned Snape upside down and revealed his underwear.

After that incident, Lucius Malfoy and his band of wannabe Death Eaters took Snape under their wing. This mostly protected him from further attacks from the Marauders.

Snape’s school days were spent learning everything he could in his classes; he hated to fail at anything. He would stay up all night studying for each and every one of his classes. On weekends, instead of hanging out and relaxing with other Slytherins, he would be sitting inside, reading some old texts about the Dark Arts, smuggles from the Restricted Section. By the time he left Hogwarts, he was very proficient in the Dark Arts as well as Potions.

Something Snape also learned was Occlemency, the ability to conceal his thoughts from others. He wanted to be able to protect his mind from the probing of others. He was also thinking ahead to his future as a Death Eater. He did not want Voldemort prying into his mind, learning every little secret, like the ones that would reveal him to be a half-blood. With that came Legilimency, the ability to learn the thoughts of others.

After Snape’s graduation from Hogwarts, he joined the Death Eaters with great eagerness. He believed in their ideals, if not their actual methods. After joining the Death Eaters, he went to Italy to study with a well-renowned Potions Master, Giraldi, and completed his extensive knowledge of Potions. After learning all he could, he killed Giraldi to erase the link between the two.

In all reality, Snape did not learn that much; he was mostly self taught in that area, making changes in his textbook in his 6th year, which has worked out rather well.

Snape returned a couple of months before his 21st birthday. He had been down to Hog’s Head, where Dumbledore was conducting an interview with Sybil Trelawney, the soon to be Divinations Professor. During the interview, Trelawney had a real Prophecy of the child who would be born who could stop Voldemort. Snape, being the good Death Eater, took this information straight to Voldemort. Not long after, Voldemort went to Godric’s Hollow to kill Harry’s parents. Overwhelmed with guilt and remorse for causing their deaths, Snape agreed to spy for the Order, when asked by Dumbledore. Also, to help with his cover, he took up the post of Potions Master, although he continually applies for the Defense Against the Dark Arts position, probably with the hopes of influencing the students towards evil and the Dark Arts.

When Snape turned 22, he took a sabbatical to travel to France to relax for a bit. While there, he met a young woman named Alana Yaxley. She was there working on a side-project for the Dark Lord, and they took an instant liking to each other. When he went back to Great Britain, she came with, and they were happily married a couple of months after they got back. A few months after that, Linda was born. Snape was really proud to have a girl. She was rather calm as a baby, and that suited Snape just fine. He didn't want some squalling infant to care for.

Two years later, another Snape was born, this time a male. He was just as precocious as his father, showing signs of magic at an early age, just like his sister.

About two years after his birth, another Snape son was born, to Snape's great surprise. He hadn't planned for this one, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Shortly after the birth of her youngest son, Aurors discovered her allegiance to the Dark Lord through an informant. Alana was headed out to Hogsmeade to get some sweets for her children, when she was accosted by them and ordered to accompany them to Azkaban. She refused, and died in a tremendous duel with about 4 Aurors. She killed 2, before she was finally taken down. Snape was distraught after her death and has since cut any loving feelings out of his consciousness. He vowed never to open his heart again.

To Snape's dismay, Harry Potter came to the school in 1991. Snape was forced to teach this brat.

Each year, Snape managed to find some way to rescue Harry Potter. Harry of course, always thought that Snape was out to get him…we know better, of course! Snape was conflicted on this issue. How could he be so nice to the son of the man who tormented him during his years at school? On the other hand, how could he be mean to the son of the parents he had indirectly helped kill? He managed to come to grips with this, however, by deciding to forget what he did to James in favor of remembering all the bad things that were done to him.

Before the 1996 school year began, Narcissa Malfoy and Bellatrix Lestrange came to see him at his home in Spinner’s End. There, Narcissa begged Snape to take over Draco’s task if he should fail. Snape agreed, and Bella was there to witness the swearing of an Unbreakable Vow.

Toward the end of the year, there was a Death Eater attack on the school, while Dumbledore was away with Harry, attempting to find and destroy one of the Horocruxes. This attack was aided by Draco Malfoy, who had discovered a cabinet in the Room of Requirement that led to an identical cabinet in Borgin and Burkes. Draco was called upon to kill Dumbledore, but was unable to do so. Honoring the Unbreakable Vow, Snape used the Avada Kedavra curse on him, sending him to his death.

Snape was on the run for a while, and then he allowed the Ministry to catch him. He told them about Narcissa's Vow, and they let him go. He resumed his old post at Hogwarts and is still teaching there now.

Roleplaying Sample: [at least two paragraphs!]

Snape sat at his desk, grading papers. For the moment, his students would be ok without supervision...although Longbottom was really good at getting himself into mischief at the slightest instance. Thinking better of grading, he decided to observe instead. Snape watched his students carefully to make sure they weren't going to blow anything up. Noting that a few students were almost done, he decided to tell them about their homework assignment.

"Your next assignment is to research the Confusing & Befuddlement Draught and write me an essay as to the ingredients and purpose of this potion. I also want to know some additional ingredients you would use to brew this potion. Also explain why you think those ingredients should be used. I want some thought put into this essay. Most of you did not turn in papers for your last homework assignment. I'm taking off 10 points per assignment per person who did not turn it in. Be warned, if you continue to not turn in assignments, you will receive a weeks worth of detention with Filch for every assignment you do not complete. Is this understood? Those who are finished with their potions may bottle them up and bring them to my desk. After you are finished with your potion, you may go."

Snape glared at all the students...how dare they not turn in their homework.
